Calgary is Loving the Affordable Family Fun of the Royal Canadian Circus

The first weekend of the circus in Calgary was a success. Hundreds of families turned out to celebrate 250 years of the Zerbini Family Circus. Cotton candy in hand, children of all ages took in all of the exciting acts the circus had to offer. Many enjoyed 2 for 1 general admission tickets by using the code “FUN” when purchasing their tickets online.

Prior to show time, the Zerbini elephants took to the ring for elephant rides (extra charge). The smiles of delight on adults and children alike as they took their turn to sit high atop the two gentle elephants were wonderful to see. Face painters gave many in the crowd their own glittery circus look. Circus food, drinks and souvenirs are all available within the big top for the full circus experience.

Circus Treats

Everyone took their seats in anticipation as the ringmaster started the show. With the beautiful grandeur of the circus horses and the hilarity of Piolita the whistling clown, the show was off to a great start. Soaring acrobats (including the amazing Gabriela that hung from the trapeze by only her ankles!) had the audience gasping at their arial feats.

The Poema and Videla family acts had the crowd oohing and ahhing as entire families showcased their circus acts. Seeing such talented children riding unicycles, being juggled or jumping off the Russian swing delighted the children in the crowd because the performers weren’t much older than they were.

The Videla Family

At last, the moment that many had waited for, the arrival of the elephants. Outfitted in their sparkly headdresses, they stole the show. The love of the elephants by the Zerbini circus was plainly evident during the entire act.

The show was brought to a close by the death defying Wheel of Destiny act with Hans Winn. Gasps and squeals from the audience were audible throughout his performance and a great sigh of relief was given by all when he made it back on to solid ground unscathed.

Unfortunately the tiger act missed the first weekend in Calgary due to a customs issue coming in to Canada. The good news is that the tigers got their passports stamped and will be performing during all of the shows this long weekend.
